HOW DOES THE FEDERAL BUDGET AFFECT ME?
There are a large number of changes to higher education signalled in the federal
Government’s Budget. These changes will ONLY become official IF the Senate passes them.
For current students the Government has stated that:
Current HECS students and HECS students commencing in 2004 will study under the
current HECS contribution levels until the end of 2008, unless enrolment is
discontinued before 2008.
This provides another five years for you to complete your degree under the
current arrangements. For a full report and explanation of the Governments proposals as set out in the
Budget go to DEST’s site at:
http://www.backingaustraliasfuture.gov.au/

Degrees of mental illness©
© DOMI and “Degrees of Mental Illness” are original intellectual property i.e. copyright
Degrees of Mental Illness (DOMI) is a peer network of people with a mental
illness and a university degree. It acknowledges there are degrees of mental
illness, and there are people with mental illness capable of getting degrees.
DOMI provides a social network of peers. Despite the significant number of
people in the community (10 -15%) with a mental illness, many unnecessarily suffer their illness in silence and alone. Fear of stigma increases anxiety.
DOMI reassures mental health consumers they are not alone.
DOMI has been formed to bring together a group of mental health consumers with
experience and expertise of both their illness and degree discipline. DOMI meets
socially on a regular basis as determined by the membership. These meetings
provide an opportunity for further networking and the development of the DOMI
community and associated activities.
DOMI aims to reduce the stigma and prejudice faced by all mental health
consumers by increasing awareness and acceptance of mental health conditions
among the tertiary educated, and thus the wider community.
The DOMI network comprises graduates, both employed and non-incomed, current and
prospective university students and university staff from all disciplines and
with various Degrees of Mental Illness.
DOMI is not a self-help counselling group and there is no religious affiliation.
